Rams sign DB Jerry Jacobs

LOS ANGELES – After seeing two cornerbacks get injured in their first two training camp practices, the Rams have added one to the roster.

Los Angeles on Saturday signed defensive back Jerry Jacobs.

Jacobs, 26, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent signee by the Detroit Lions out of Arkansas in 2021. He became an unrestricted free agent after the Lions reportedly elected not to tender him as a restricted free agent.

The 2023 season was the best of Jacobs' career thus far; his 55 total tackles and three interceptions were both career highs, as were his 15 games played and 12 starts. Jacobs also logged 8 passes defensed, matching that career-high. Overall, he has 131 total tackles, 23 passes defensed and 4 interceptions across 40 games (29 starts) in three seasons.

Rams head coach Sean McVay after Thursday's training camp practice didn't rule out the team signing a cornerback after Derion Kendrick tore his ACL Wednesday and Darious Williams appeared to injure his hamstring Thursday.

"There's a possibility of that," McVay said Thursday. "We have some depth right now but being two days in and then having kind of a de-loaded day and then we will turn it back up on Saturday. We'll look at those things. The thing you want to make sure you don't do is when you get short on that depth, other guys have to pick up the slack and then it can kind of have an accumulation of some workloads that you want be mindful of. We'll definitely take that into consideration."
