With the offseason program complete and Rams Training Camp presented by UNIFY Financial Credit Union starting up on July 23, it's time to look ahead. As part of the preparation for training camp, theRams.com will be spotlighting a handful of players new to the Rams' roster. Continuing the series is running back Blake Corum.
How He Got Here: The Rams selected Corum 83rd overall out of Michigan in this year's draft.
What's Next: Continuing to learn the playbook and earn a role in the running back rotation. His work ethic has him off to a strong start in that regard, but the scope of OTAs – no live contact, no pads – limits the extent a running back can be evaluated. That will obviously be different in training camp, which makes that phase an important next step in Corum's preparation.
Bet You Didn't Know: Corum is the Wolverines' career record-holder in rushing touchdowns (58), total touchdowns (61), and career points scored (356).
Quotable: "I've seen a very mature rookie. I've seen a guy that's really conscientious. He ended up having a play that he wants back in terms of a blitz pickup today, but I've seen a guy that's continued to progress. (Running Backs Coach) Ron Gould does such a great job overall with that group. But great instincts as a runner, good feel in the pass game, great toughness. Like I was talking about a little bit earlier with Colby, these running backs, they're a lot easier to evaluate when you get into real game-like settings, but he has definitely been as advertised through what we can evaluate up to this point. I love his mental makeup, love the way he handles himself as a person and how locked in and focused he is. And he enjoys competing and I think that's a consistent theme with a lot of these players on this team." – McVay on Corum on June 4
