Game Recap: Matthew Stafford's go-ahead touchdown pass to Tyler Higbee, timely fourth-quarter playmaking by defense lift Rams to 19-9 road win over Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Rams (9-6) followed a familiar recipe to earn their fourth-straight victory.

Running back Kyren Williams rushed 23 times for 122 yards and one touchdown, and quarterback Matthew Stafford connected with tight end Tyler Higbee for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter – shortly after safety Kam Curl forced a fumble recovered that outside linebacker Jared Verse recovered – to help Los Angeles to a 19-9 road win over the New York Jets (4-11) on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

Here is the complete game recap, delivered by Uber Eats:

Although the Rams were forced to punt following the first drive of the game, the ensuing kick by Ethan Evans was downed by wide receiver Jordan Whittington at the Jets' 1-yard line. The shallow field position did little to stop New York, which mounted a 99-yard scoring drive capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Adams. Kicker Anders Carlson missed the ensuing point-after try, though, leaving the Jets with a 6-0 lead over the Rams with 23 seconds left in the first quarter.

Los Angeles' second series was derailed at first by a penalty that negated a 32-yard Blake Corum run that would've put L.A. at the New York 15. Two plays later, Stafford's deep pass intended for wide receiver Demarcus Robinson was intercepted by Jets safety Tony Adams, giving them the ball back at their own 24.

However, the Jets came up empty, as Rams linebacker Omar Speights stuffed Jets running back Breece Hall for no gain on 4th and 1 from the Jets 33. Los Angeles capitalized three plays later with a 2-yard touchdown run by Williams; however, the game remained tied 6-6 due to Joshua Karty's ensuing point-after try hitting the right upright with 6:22 left in the second quarter.

A 21-yard field goal by Carlson as time expired at the end of the first half gave the Jets a 9-6 halftime lead.

The Jets possessed the ball for the first 9 minutes and 45 seconds of the third quarter after receiving the second half-opening kickoff, and the Rams defense finally got them off the field after a 4th-down pass breakup in the endzone by Ahkello Witherspoon on a Rodgers pass intended for Adams. New York had reached the L.A. 13 at that point.

Karty's 38-yard field goal attempt tied the game 9-9 with 12:47 left in the fourth quarter.

A little over a minute later, Rams safety Kam Curl knocked the ball from Rodgers' grasp, and outside linebacker Jared Verse recovered the fumble at the Jets 21. L.A. capitalized 3 plays later with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to tight end Tyler Higbee to take a 16-9 lead with 10:11 left in the fourth quarter.

Karty's 45-yard field goal extended the Rams lead to 19-9 with 5:22 left.

Forcing the Jets to punt with 1:44 remaining, the ensuing muffed punt by Jets wide receiver Xavier Gipson was recovered by Whittington. From there, Stafford and the offense entered victory formation, taking three straight kneels to drain the remaining clock and secure the win.
