5 interesting stats from Rams' Day 3 picks: 4 players add distinct skill sets to different positions

The Rams traded up three times on Day 3.

They began by jumping up 10 picks in the fourth round to select Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter 117th overall. Los Angeles then traded into the fifth round to select Ohio State defensive lineman Ty Hamilton, and followed that with another fifth-round trade-up for inside linebacker Chris "Pooh" Paul Jr.. Finally, they capped the draft by picking wide receiver Konata Mumpfield in round seven.

All four of the Rams' draft picks on Saturday will bring distinct skill sets at different positions to the Rams' roster, as evidenced by their college production.

Here are five interesting stats from the Rams' Day 3 draft picks:

Hunter was ranked top 10 in the FBS in rushes of both 10 and 15-plus yards in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus

Hunter's explosiveness will be a welcome addition to a Rams backfield that had the fourth-fewest carries of 10-plus yards last season (37). Meanwhile, Hunter had 42 such rushes (ranking eighth in the FBS) to go along with 27 carries of 15-plus yards (ninth). His career-long explosive run rate (10-plus yards) was the second-best in this year's draft class.

That speed showed up at the combine as well, where Hunter ran a 4.44 40-yard dash.

Hunter was the most efficient qualified rusher in the SEC last season

Hunter led the SEC and finished 13th in the FBS (among qualified backs) with 6.5 yards per carry during a 2024 season where he totaled 1,201 yards on the ground (second in the SEC behind Tennessee's Dylan Sampson, who ran for 1,491). Hunter runs fast and tough – that along with his low center of gravity at 5-foot-9 makes him incredibly tough to bring down.

Hamilton had the ninth-most run stops of any interior defensive lineman in the FBS last season, according to PFF

A stop constitutes a failed play for the offense, and Hamilton generated 24 of them against the run last season. The Rams lost both Neville Gallimore and Bobby Brown III in free agency, both of whom were solid run stoppers in the middle of the defensive line. Hamilton and Poona Ford are more than capable of picking up the slack.

That's exactly the support L.A. needed after allowing the seventh-most yards per carry in the NFL last year.

Paul had the fifth-lowest missed tackle rate of any FBS linebacker with 300-plus snaps, according to PFF

Paul only missed 4.5% of his tackle attempts in 2024, establishing himself as both a reliable and aggressive tackler in the middle of the defense. Paul also had 54 total stops during his sole season at Ole Miss, 13th-most among qualified FBS inside linebackers.

He finished with the sixth-best PFF defense grade at inside linebacker and totaled 88 tackles (11 for loss), 3.5 sacks and an interception.

Mumpfield had the second-most intermediate receiving yards (10-19 yards downfield) in the ACC last season, according to PFF

The Rams' offense thrives in the intermediate areas, and that's where Mumpfield shined last season for Pittsburgh. 363 of his 813 receiving yards – and three of his five touchdowns – came in the intermediate range. He ranked 25th in the FBS among qualified receivers in intermediate receiving yards.
