VAN NUYS, Calif. – New Rams tight end Terrance Ferguson's younger brother is a "die-hard" Lions fan, so he's very familiar with the quarterback Ferguson will be teaming up at the beginning of his NFL career.
"He was super excited," Ferguson said in a video conference with reporters after being selected 46th overall by Los Angeles in the second round. "He's in the other room, but he was super excited because he grew up a Detroit Lions fan, and Stafford's his guy. That was the first thing he said to me, he said I get to play with the G.O.A.T."
Ferguson brings a self-described "versatile" skillset to the Rams offense. While more than half of his 575 offensive snaps across the regular season and post came lined up inline (306), he also lined up in the slot on 192 of those snaps and out wide on 70, according to Pro Football Focus.
Moreover, he had the best fastest 40 time (4.63), highest vertical jump (39 inches) and tied for the fastest 10-yard split (1.55) for his position group at this year's NFL Combine.
"I think I bring a lot of things, versatility as being the biggest," Ferguson said. "Being able to stretch the field, create mismatches with linebackers or safeties, but also be able to put my nose on somebody, you know. So I think the God-gifted ability, but also just the versatility and ability to be able to line up anywhere and be able to make an impact however I need to."
There will also be quite a bit of carryover from the Oregon offense to the Rams offense.
"We kind of take a lot of stuff from the Rams offense," Ferguson said. "We've watched some tape on them, so there's definitely some carry over."
Ferguson received that life-changing call while at his home in Denver, Colorado, surrounded by family and some of his friends.
"We just got to share that special moment of a dream come true," Ferguson said. "I got the call and was super excited for the opportunity, but also just blessed to be able to look back and be grateful for the moment, and just everything that God has put in my hands. Just super excited and blessed."
