Tyler Johnson was signed by the Los Angeles Rams (5/30/23).
College: Johnson played in 49 career games at Minnesota and recorded 213 catches for 3,305 yards and 33 touchdowns. His catch mark ranks second in school history and his yards and touchdowns rank first in school history. He caught a pass in 36 straight games, which is the second-longest streak in program history. His 16 career 100-yard receiving games is a school record. In 2019, Johnson registered seven straight 100-yard receiving performances, a school record. He also tied the school record the year prior with four straight 100-yard receiving outputs and became the first Gopher ever to do so in conference play. Johnson set single-season records in 2019 for receptions (86), receiving yards (1,318) and receiving touchdowns (13). Johnson also had three contests with three receiving touchdowns, a school record. He is the only receiver in school history to have two 1,000 yard seasons (2018 and 2019). His senior season, he started all 13 games and averaged 101.4 receiving yards per game and caught a touchdown in the final seven games of the season. He was named All-Big Ten First-Team for the second consecutive year. As a junior in 2018, he started all 13 games and became an All-Big Ten First-Team selection for the first time in his college career, becoming the first Gopher to receive that honor since 2009. Johnson started the first 10 games of the 2017 season before missing the final two with an injury. He still led Minnesota with 35 receptions for 677 yards and seven touchdowns. His receiving yard mark was the fifth-most ever by a Minnesota sophomore, while his seven touchdowns were the second-most ever by a sophomore. He was an All-Big Ten honorable mention that season. He played in all 13 games as a freshman in 2016 and started in one contest. He hauled in 14 catches for 141 yards and one touchdown.
Personal: He attended Minneapolis North High School, where he was a three-year letterwinner and played quarterback and defensive back for the Polars. He led them to an 11-2 record and a 7-1 mark in conference play in 2015. As a senior, he led the team to a state championship appearance and threw for 2,606 yards and 36 touchdowns, while totaling 1,100 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground. He averaged a touchdown every six snaps taken in high school and added three interceptions at defensive back. He was invited to play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl after his senior season. As a junior, he threw for seven touchdowns and added 12 tackles, including three tackles for loss and a fumble recovery on defense before earning 2014 Third-Team All-State honors. As a sophomore, he threw for 1,986 yards and 24 touchdowns to go along with 688 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing. Johnson also played basketball and led the school to a state championship as a senior. He was a three-star prospect by Rivals, Scout, 247 Sports and ESPN. Rivals ranked him as the no.3 prospect in the state of Minnesota.
