Top takeaways from Les Snead and Sean McVay's pre-2025 NFL Draft press conference: Not ruling out Jalen Ramsey reunion, Draft HQ at LAFD Air Operations, more

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Rams general manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay held their annual pre-draft press conference Tuesday afternoon, discussing the Dolphins making cornerback Jalen Ramsey available for trade, drafting out of Los Angeles Fire Department Air Operations, and other topics.

More on those top takeaways below:

Ramsey reunion not being ruled out

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier last week confirmed the team and Ramsey mutually agreed to seek a trade.

Neither Snead nor McVay ruled out the possibility of Ramsey being brought back to the Rams.

Snead confirmed he's had discussions with the Dolphins as part of standard annual draft week conversations each team has. He said they've discussed getting through the draft. Both he and McVay noted the layers involved with a player of Ramsey's caliber, between getting through this week's draft first, getting back together with the pro scouting staff and the expectation that other teams will be interested in Ramsey.

"There's a lot of nuances to that situation based on all the things that come with a trade, contracts and things like that," Snead said. "So not sure where they're at in the process."

"He's a great player, we know him very well. We know him intimately," McVay said. "You would certainly never rule out the possibility of that, but I think like Les articulated, our focus and concentration is on this week's upcoming draft. There's a lot of layers that would need to be worked out with a player of his magnitude and some of the different things that accompany that, but you would never eliminate the possibility of adding a total stud and a guy that can do a lot of different things, like he's continued to do, like he did here, like he did in Jacksonville and like he's done for the last couple years in Miami."

"Goose" and "Maverick" looking forward to having draft headquarters at LAFD Air Operations

As a tribute to first responders and their efforts to combat January's Los Angeles-area wildfires, the Rams will be hosting their draft headquarters this year out of a converted room inside LAFD Air Operations.

"I think that goes without being said, all that occurred in this area, and what the first responders, especially the fire department, did," Snead said. "Hey, they just woke up and did their job, but it was a heck of a job that they did. Not everyone has that type of responsibility, so it's an honor to somewhat honor them. Living probably in an area that has been affected by fires, it's definitely something that's personal to me, and in this community, personal to a lot of people who've been affected a lot harder than I have."

"I think it's perfectly said by Les," McVay added. "And it's a great opportunity, really, to use the platform that we're blessed with to recognize the real heroes. Les and I talk about all the time being servant leaders, making a choice to go into that profession embodies serving others, being a part of something bigger than yourselves, and then really being called to action when things that are way bigger than football occur. And so it was awesome when Les and I got a chance to go over there and meet so many of these special people that we'll be amongst in a couple days."

McVay said while he and Snead were visiting the hangar, the debate between the two of them was who was Goose and who was Maverick – referring to the two main characters in the 1986 movie Top Gun.

What the Rams look for in a receiver

While the Rams signed veteran Davante Adams and brought back Tutu Atwell, that hasn't stopped analysts from projecting a wide receiver going to Los Angeles in their mock drafts.

If the Rams do end up addressing the position in this week's draft, here are some of the things they look for in a receiver, per McVay:

"At the crux of it is, are they mentally wired the right way? Are they able to get open and catch the football? But there's different types of things that are brought to life. Are you a guy that plays with a big catch radius? Do you have aggressive and soft hands? Can you run and create after the catch? Are you a speed guy that's tracking the ball down the field? And I think there's all different types of receivers that are going to be productive and valuable."

McVay also said that Adams, Atwell and third-year receiver Puka Nacua are all "very different" but still all have complementary and all-around skillsets.
