Key offseason moves

  • Signed former Lions offensive lineman Jonah Jackson to a 3-year deal on March 14. At 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, Jackson adds more size to the interior of a Rams offensive line already featuring 6-3, 338 Steve Avila and 6-4, 330 Kevin Dotson.
  • Re-signed Kevin Dotson: His physical playing style embodied that of the offensive line's overall, and he was a crucial component to Los Angeles' revamped run game.
  • Moved Avila to center: Once the Rams realized they had a chance to get Jackson and then signed him, they shifted Avila over to center, a position he previously played in college.
  • Tendered Alaric Jackson: The former undrafted free agent has been a steady presence as Matthew Stafford's blindside protector, and signing his restricted free agent tender ensured he would continue to do so through the 2024 season.

What's next

Getting Jonah Jackson fully involved, and continuing to help Avila re-learn the center position. Head coach Sean McVay during OTAs said Jackson was part of a small group of players they were taking a precautious approach with in order to have them healthy and ready for training camp. For Jackson, that meant being withheld from team drills in the later portion of those spring practices. Having Jackson out there will be important as the reconfigured offensively builds chemistry.

McVay also said this spring it would be a group effort to put Avila in a position to succeed at center, and that will start with Stafford and the offensive line in training camp.
