Newcomer update: Jared Verse

With the offseason program complete and Rams Training Camp presented by UNIFY Financial Credit Union starting up on July 23, it's time to look ahead. As part of the preparation for training camp, theRams.com will be spotlighting a handful of players new to the Rams' roster. Kicking off the series is outside linebacker Jared Verse.

How He Got Here: The Rams used their first selection in the 2024 NFL Draft on Verse, taking him 19th overall in the first round.

What's Next: Continuing to learn the defense and earn a role in the pass-rush rotation. Defensive coordinator Chris Shula said during OTAs that Verse has been "as advertised," but head coach Sean McVay in an interview on Chris Long's Green Light Podcast said Verse is a "polished" player who the game makes sense to, but they "still need to have him understand where those opportunities are" on defense. Between speed-to-power and the pass-rush tools he already has, he'll be a difference maker at edge once he gets the scheme down.

Bet You Didn't Know: Verse was Florida State's first two-time first-team All-ACC defensive end since Reinard Wilson in 1995-96.

Quotable: "He's been great. He's been great. He's been as advertised. He loves football. He is a passionate guy. He loves coming in every day. He works really hard. He works really hard in 'indy' (individual drills). He wants to learn and he showed that he is extremely coachable. He had a good first week last week and we'll see the tape today, but it seemed like it was another good day." – Shula
