10 Observations from Rams' July 30 training camp practice: Matthew Stafford participates after scheduled rest day, Tre'Davious White's performance, more

LOS ANGELES – The fifth open practice of 2024 Rams Training Camp presented by UNIFY Financial Credit Union took place Tuesday, featuring Matthew Stafford's return following a scheduled day off, a strong day for defensive back Tre'Davious White, and former running back Todd Gurley II's attendance.

Here are 10 things that stood out from the session:

1) Jonah Jackson leaves practice early: The offensive lineman exited practice and walked off the field with an athletic trainer and did not return. McVay said "I'm not sure" when asked what happened with Jackson.

2) Stafford back in action: As McVay on Monday said would be the case, Stafford was in pads and practicing Tuesday after his scheduled day off.

3) White has impressive practice: The veteran defensive back was especially active during team drills, nearly coming away with an interception on two separate occasions. He also had a well-timed, physical pass breakup on a Jimmy Garoppolo pass intended for wide receiver Tutu Atwell.

4) Gurley attends: Gurley was at practice Tuesday, and caught up with former teammates as well as new Rams players after practice.

5) Play of the day: Defensive back Quentin Lake had an impressive pass breakup on a Stafford pass intended for wide receiver Cooper Kupp near the sideline in redzone drills.

6) Blake Corum's speed on display: Understanding the context of "thud" tackling – an emphasis on keeping players on their feet – that the Rams traditionally employ in training camp practices with pads on, the rookie running back had a couple runs that showcased his burst and speed.

7) Bobby in the backfield: Nose tackle Bobby Brown III made a run stop in the backfield during team drills that drew some of the loudest cheers from the defense all practice.

8) Verse and Fiske applying pressure: Rookies Jared Verse and Braden Fiske teamed up to quickly pressure Garoppolo into overthrowing Atwell on one play in team drills.

9) Xavier Smith continues to impress: The second-year wide receiver once again was catching every ball throw his way for the third-straight practice.

10) Competitive mix: Tuesday featured lots of competition with the first team offense going against the second team defense, the second team offense going against the first team defense, and of course the normal first team offense vs. first team defense and second team offense vs. second-team defense.
