2025-black-history-month

Black History Month is a time to recognize the accomplishments of past trailblazers who set the stage for the next generation to thrive and express their passions through a canvas of culture.

This February, we'll celebrate the expression of Black creatives, Rams players, and staff as we honor the legacies of those who came before while looking ahead to the future.

Meet the Artist

Artist Brian Peterson will be painting a mural on the outside of the Nickerson Gardens basketball court. This mural is designed to represent historical Black figures in Rams history, present, and future. The mural will be unveiled in late February.

Brian Peterson, a husband and father of three, is a distinguished artist celebrated for his impactful murals and creative vision that transcends traditional art boundaries. His works are not just visual masterpieces but powerful community statements, designed to inspire hope, connection, and reflection.

Among his most notable projects are the "Courthedral" mural honoring Kobe and Gianna Bryant, the "Lion of Judah Arts Tower," and the "More than an Athlete" mural in Hollywood, each carrying profound cultural and spiritual significance.

Beyond his artistic accomplishments, Brian is deeply committed to humanitarian work, using his talents to uplift marginalized communities and advocate for social change. His projects often serve as platforms for storytelling, celebrating unsung heroes and amplifying voices that might otherwise go unheard.

Creatives of the Future

Da Poetry Lounge Slam Night

Da Poetry Lounge Slam Night

The Rams will support Slam Night at Da Poetry Lounge where six pre-selected poets will perform a poem that fits the themes of the night related to Kenny Washington, LA-native and UCLA standout who was the first Black player to be signed by an NFL team in the modern era ending a 12-year ban on Black players in the league.

How do Rams staff members express their culture?

Taylor Bailey

Taylor Bailey

Sometimes the simplest forms of support mean the most for a person's confidence. For Taylor Bailey, a producer for the Rams' Studios team, that backing from mentors and peers has played a huge part in helping her get to where she is today. Bailey is one of the only Black women on the Rams video team. Her advice for other Black professionals trying to break into the same career space as her is to be true to oneself and not get discouraged by the lack of representation.

Byron Cunningham

Byron Cunningham

The son of two parents who were born in Mobile, Alabama, during the Jim Crow and Civil Rights eras, the continued guidance Byron Cunningham receives from them still motivates him to this day.

"There were opportunities that they never had growing up, and they never used that as an excuse to educate themselves, and the sacrifices they made to make sure they gave my brother and I the education, discipline, and tools for us to be successful," Cunningham said. "Now having two children of my own, it is my responsibility to make sure I pass along those same values my parents taught me, so I'm motivated as soon as I wake up every morning."
