Xavier Smith signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted rookie free agent (5/1/23).
College: During his time at Florida A&M, Smith appeared in 44 games with 193 receptions for 2,599 yards. During his final campaign in 2022, Smith was named Walter Payton Award Preseason Watch List, Stats perform FCS Preseason AllAmerican Third-Team, East-West Shrine Bowl 1,000 Watch List and Preseason All-SWAC First-Team. He caught 87 passes for 1,021 yards and 11 touchdowns with an average of 11.74 yards per reception. During the 2021 season, Smith ranked 21st in the nation and third in SWAC in receptions per game (5.8). He led the Rattlers with 64 receptions and 713 receiving yards, ranking sixth in the SWAC. He ranked seventh in SWAC in all-purpose yards per game (91.45). Smith recorded the third-most receptions in 2021 NCAA single-game and a career-high against USF (15). As a junior in 2020, the Ratters season was canceled due to COVID. During his sophomore campaign in 2019, Smith was named Black College All-American, AFCA All-America Second-Team, HERO Sports AllAmerican, BOXTOROW All-American, and All-MEAC First-Team Offense. He ranked fifth in the nation in receiving yards per game (105.4), ninth in the nation in receptions per game (seven), 10th in receiving yards (1,159), and 16th in receiving touchdowns (11). Smith recorded a career-high 201 receiving yards, 19th most in FCS NCAA in a single-game against Southern. As a true freshman in 2018, he was named Second-Team All-MEAC. Smith led the team in receptions (52) and receiving yards (727). He ranked second in MEAC in receiving yards (727) and receiving yards per game (66.1). He also ranked third in MEAC in receptions per game (4.7).
Personal: A 2017 graduate from Haines City Fl., Smith played running back before converting to wide receiver at FAMU. He took a gap year before entering college at Florida A&M. Son of Angenetta Sanchious, an alumus of Flordia A&M, he began his career as a walk-on to play with his brother, Kareem, who also played wide receiver. In 2018, Smith earned a full scholarship to FAMU.
