The Los Angeles Rams drafted Stanford kicker Joshua Karty 209th overall in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft (4/27/24).
College: As a senior at Stanford in 2023, Karty was the recipient of the Jim Reynolds Award and was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award. He also was a PFF All-America First-Team and an All-Pac 12 First-Team selection. Karty was a three-time Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week honoree and converted 23-of27 field goal attempts and did not miss an extra point all season. His 23 field goals made is the most in a single season in program history and he finished his Stanford career with 51 field goals made, which is the fifth-most in program history. Karty also holds the highest all-time field goal percentage as a Cardinal (85%). He made three field goals in four games and 11 of his 23 field goals made in 2023 were from 40+ yards. As a junior in 2022, Karty was the recpient of the Irving S. Zeimer Award, the Phil Moffatt Award, and was a Lou Groza Award finalist. He also received Third-Team All-America honors (AP) and was voted First-Team All-Pac 12. The four-time conference Special Teams Player of the Week was the first Stanford player to win the award three times in a single season since 1987, and he was the first Pac-12 specialist to earn the award three times in a single season since the 2018 season. Karty led the Cardinals in points scored in 2022 and went a perfect 18-for-18 on field goal attempts. His 61-yard field goal set a new school record and was five yards longer than any other field goal made at the FBS level that season and was the second-longest field goal in Pac-12 history and longest in a conference game. In 2021 as a sophomore, Karty was a ThirdTeam All-Pac 12 selection (PFF) and was a Phil Moffatt Award recipient after scoring 57 points on the year. He played in one game as a freshman in 2020.
Personal: Karty was the top-ranked kicker in the 2020 recruiting class, a two-time all-state selection, a three-time all-conference selection and a three-time all-conference academic honoree in high school. He set his high school record in touchbacks and the longest made field goal of 52 yards. Karty also competed in track, tennis and swimming in high school. His father was a rower at Stanford and his brother, Jacob, is a state champion in soccer and a World Champion for robotics.
