CHICAGO — For the first time this season, running back John Kelly will be in shoulder pads on the sideline.
The rookie running back quipped with the media earlier this week that he hadn't put on shoulder pads for a game since back in the preseason. Now in the aftermath of the shoulder injury to running back Malcolm Brown, both Kelly and fellow running back Justin Davis are active for Week 14 against the Bears.
After the week of practices, head coach Sean McVay said both Davis and Kelly did a nice job, particularly with the leadership of both RBs coach Skip Peete and All-Pro starter Todd Gurley.
"There were some things that, fortunately, you can learn from the mistakes and then a lot of good things, too, where the week is always a progression for us," McVay said. "Usually, you're a little bit more stressed early on and then as the week builds and you get the full gameplan in and get a chance to learn from the good, the bad, continue to repeat things. That's always the goal is to feel as comfortable as possible on Sunday, so guys can go out and play with a quieted mind. If they've got to step in, if Todd needs a blow, then both those guys will be ready to go."
At outside linebacker, Matt Longacre is inactive for Sunday for the second time in three games. Dante Fowler will start at the position, which he has done for the last two weeks. Fowler has 2.0 sacks and four tackles for loss in four games with L.A.
For Chicago, as expected quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is active and expected to start after missing the Bears' last two games with a shoulder injury. Safety Eddie Jackson, questionable with a shin injury, also is active for Chicago.
