WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – The Rams have agreed to terms with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on a one-year deal.
The move ensures Los Angeles retains Matthew Stafford's backup going into the 2025 season.
When asked last week if Garoppolo is the team's first choice to be the backup quarterback, general manager Les Snead said "that's been the case since we left."
"I know we have to sit down with Jimmy as he figures out what's next, whether he wants to come back in a more traditional backup and not necessarily compete for the starting job, or is there maybe an opportunity out there somewhere in the league where he could compete or go in as a bridge guy," Snead said. "I think Jimmy's sitting there and taking the time to figure out what he might want and what's best for him moving forward."
Ultimately, Garoppolo decided that was returning to the Rams.
Because Garoppolo was in backup role, he didn't play in a game until the Week 18 regular season finale against the Seahawks, in which he completed 27 of 41 pass attempts for 334 yards and two touchdowns against one interception.
The 2025 season will be Garoppolo's second with the Rams and 12th overall in the NFL. He originally entered the league as a second-round pick (62nd overall) out of Eastern Illinois by the Patriots in the 2014 draft.
