Rams adding Scott Frost to coaching staff

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – The Rams are making a new addition to their coaching staff.

Head coach Sean McVay on Monday confirmed the team is hiring former Nebraska and University of Central Florida (UCF) head coach Scott Frost.

Frost will help out special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn in that phase, but also work with Los Angeles' offense and defense, according to McVay.

"Just to be able to get a quality, caliber coach like him in the building, as you guys know, you know, we've had a lot of turnover for the right reasons, and you can't have enough good quality people in-house," McVay said after Monday's practice. "And really, to get him in, it was something that he wanted to do. And like I said, the mutual connections, so there's a lot of people that are excited about it."

Frost served as the head coach at Nebraska from 2018-2022 after holding the same position with UCF from 2016-17. Prior to UCF, he was on Oregon's staff from 2009-15, serving as wide receivers coach his first four seasons before being elevated to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for his final three seasons.

McVay said Frost spent a couple weeks with the team earlier in the offseason, and that both of them have lots of mutual connections. Between how that experience went and the respect for his background, McVay indicated it was a good fit.

"Shoot, I was an option quarterback. I remember watching him do his thing at Nebraska, I was like fanboying him," McVay said. "But as a coach? I mean, he was obviously a good player in the NFL, played on special teams, was a really tough DB (defensive back), played the safety position. A lot of mutual connections. This coaching thing is a really small fraternity of people, and so we've crossed paths over the different years. And then just watching him from afar, and then getting a chance to see him spend time with our group and a lot of different people on our staff, felt like a really seamless fit. Wanted to get back in it."
