Game Recap: Josh Karty's four field goals, Darious Williams' late-fourth quarter interception lift Rams to 12-6 win over 49ers on Thursday Night Football

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – It took every made field goal by kicker Joshua Karty and a timely fourth-quarter interception by cornerback Darious Williams, but it was enough for the Rams (8-6) to hold on for a 12-6 win over the 49ers (6-8) at Levi's Stadium on a rainy Thursday Night Football.

Karty made all four of his field goal attempts (48, 23, 27 and 29 yards) to account for all of Los Angeles' points. Williams gave them added security with an interception with 5:20 remaining in the fourth quarter led to the possession that drained that remaining clock down to just 19 seconds.

Still, San Francisco had a last gasp from midfield because of a horse collar tackle penalty against cornerback Charles Woods. However, Rams linebacker Christian Rozeboom sacked 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy on the final play of the game to preserve the victory.

Running back Kyren Williams was also instrumental in the major NFC West win, going for over 100 yards for a second time in his last three games. He had 29 carries for 108 in the victory.

Notably, the Rams won the time of possession battle 35:04 to 24:56.

Here is the complete game recap, presented by UNIFY:

Both teams traded 3-and-outs at the start before the 49ers broke the game open with a 33-yard completion from Purdy to Kittle on their second series. Still, San Francisco was forced to settle for a 53-yard field goal by kicker Jake Moody at the end of that second drive, taking an early 3-0 lead.

Off-and-on rain largely stalled any progress for the rest of the first half, though Los Angeles managed a 48-yard field goal by Karty to tie the game 3-3 with 1:05 left until halftime. The Rams ran 30 plays for 89 net yards and punted five times in the first half; the 49ers 31 for 108 with six.

The 49ers regained the lead 6-3 midway through the third quarter on a 47-yard field goal by Moody.

On the ensuing possession, the Rams went for it on 4th and 1 from the 49ers 37, and converted on a QB sneak by Matthew Stafford. While that drive was sustained, the 17-play, 65-yard drive that bled into the fourth quarter and erased nearly 10 minutes of game clock ended with a 23-yard field goal by Karty to tie the game 6-6 early in the fourth after the drive stalled at the 49ers 4-yard line.

After an offensive pass interference penalty stalled the 49ers on the following series and forced them to punt, the Rams capitalized with a 51-yard completion from Stafford to Puka Nacua to bring them to the 49ers 16-yard line. However, the drive stalled at the 49ers 8, and the Rams were forced to settle for a 27-yard field goal by Karty for a 9-6 lead with 9:28 left in the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles got a big break on the next drive when cornerback Darious Williams intercepted San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy's deep pass down the right sideline intended for wide receiver Jauan Jennings, regaining possession with 5:14 left.

On the ensuing series, Los Angeles brought the remaining clock all the way down to 18 seconds remaining, at which point Karty kicked a 29-yard field goal to put the Rams up 12-6 with that much time left.

Placed at midfield because of the horse collar penalty on the ensuing kickoff, Rozeboom's sack on second down – after Purdy's incomplete pass on first down – secured the win.
