Jaylen McCollough finds the ball again (and again)

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Rams cornerback Cobie Durant paused for a moment and grinned as he was asked about safety Jaylen McCollough, who had just finished with two interceptions – including the game-clincher – in a 20-15 win over the Raiders.

"Mhm, man, he living right!" Durant said postgame. "He living right, man. My hat goes off to Jaylen, man. He's a good guy. He comes in, works hard, listens well, very well-coached. Like I said, like I always preach, take advantage of them opportunities when they give 'em, and he's doing it."

Besides Durant – who had one interception and one forced fumble that safety Kam Curl returned for a touchdown – no player epitomized translating an emphasis in practice last week on attacking the ball than McCollough, who now has three interceptions overall in his last two games since seeing increased playing time in the secondary.

Or, to better describe it: McCollough has three interceptions in his last 33 defensive snaps.

"I'm just having fun," said McCollough, who joined the Rams as an undrafted free agent signee out of Tennessee this spring. "Honestly, truly, undrafted, drafted, man, I'm here, I have opportunity, and that's what we focused on. I love going to work with these dudes, I love wearing this blue and this sol, so that's just where it's at."

McCollough's first pick came on a Gardner Minshew pass that caromed off of wide receciver DJ Turner. The takeaway gave the Rams offense a short field to work with, and, three plays after the turnover, running back Kyren Williams finished off the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. His interception on a Minshew deep pass intended for Turner with 1:28 remaining sealed Los Angeles' victory, and also represented the fourth turnover created by the defense.

This carried over from Week 5, when he returned his first career interception four yards for a touchdown against the Packers.

"I'm so happy for him, because he deserves it," safety Quentin Lake said. "He does his job, he's where he's supposed to be, he's so humble, he works so hard, and to see him get the interceptions, to me, it's no surprise. He's been doing that, he did it in the preseason. Every chance he gets whenever he gets in, he makes a play. So I might have to take him to the casino one time (and) hit a lottery, because he's just in the right spot every time he's in there."

One of several defensive recipients of a game ball from head coach Sean McVay postgame, McCollough has each ball from each of his interceptions tucked away in a shelf in his locker at SoFi Stadium. He said he'll be sending them to his mom's house so she can display them back home.

At this rate, his mom will have to keep making more space.

"Hopefully she can make a little bit more room for a couple more," McCollough said.
