Notable Cowboys additions
- Signed defensive ends Al-Quadin Muhammad and Shaka Toney on Aug. 2: Dallas worked out both players after losing defensive end Sam Williams to an ACL tear, and eventually added them to an edge group in need of that depth.
- Signed signed RB Ezekiel Elliott on April 29: With 2023 leading rusher Tony Pollard departing and signing with the Titans in free agency this spring, the Cowboys brought back Elliott for a second stint with the team after Elliott played for the Patriots in 2023.
Top performers in 2023
QB Dak Prescott completed 410 of 590 pass attempts (69.5%) for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns against 9 interceptions.
Pollard led Dallas' backfield with 252 carries for 1,005 yards and 6 touchdowns, adding 55 receptions for 311 yards.
First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection CeeDee Lamb led Dallas receivers with 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Defensively, First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection CB DaRon Bland recorded 9 interceptions (returning 5 for touchdowns), while OLB Micah Parsons registered 14 sacks.
On special teams, K Brandon Aubrey made 36 of 38 field goal attempts and 49 of 52 extra point attempts, while P Bryan Anger averaged 45.3 yards per punt.
Early storylines to watch, and what they mean for the Rams
It has been well-documented and observed by now that Los Angeles does not play its starters. The closest they get is starters' participation in annual joint practices conducted with other teams.
More broadly, it's not just starters who rest for preseason games, but also players who have earned a clear role. When the veterans sit, it's obvious, but it's more telling for the younger players on the roster.
To that end, it will be interesting to see which of those first- and second-year players get that designation on Sunday, and what that tells us about how they'll be contributing to the 2024 season.
