Notable Chargers additions

  • Signed OLB Bud Dupree to a 2-year deal on May 13: The veteran pass rusher joins an edge group already featuring experienced rushers Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack.
  • Signed RB J.K. Dobbins to a 1-year deal on April 18: The former Ravens running back reunites with former Baltimore offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who was hired to the same position on the Chargers' coaching staff this offseason.

Top performers in 2023

QB Justin Herbert completed 297 of 456 pass attempts (65.1%) for 3,134 yards with 20 touchdowns against 7 interceptions in 13 games (all starts).

RB Austin Ekeler – who signed with the Commanders this offseason – led the Chargers backfield with 179 carries for 628 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns;

WR Keenan Allen – who was traded to the Bears this offseason – led the Chargers' receivers with 108 receptions for 1,243 yards and 7 touchdowns

Defensively, Pro Bowler Mack's career-high 17 sacks led that unit, with S Derwin James chipping in a team-high 125 total tackles

On special teams, K Cameron Dicker made 31 of 33 field goal attempts and all 35 of his extra point attempts, while P JK Scott averaged 46.3 yards per punt across 75 punts.

Early storylines to watch, and what they mean for the Rams

Last week against the Cowboys, the play of quarterback Stetson Bennett, wide receiver Jordan Whittington, defensive lineman Tyler Davis and kicker Joshua Karty was primary topic of conversation coming out of the preseason opener.

Bennett responded well in the face of throwing four interceptions to toss the game-winning touchdown, and showed he could be a trust-worthy pass-catcher. Davis was a disruptive force along the interior of the defensive line, and Karty was reliable in his debut.

It will be interesting to see how each player builds on their respective performances in Week 2, as well as which new players emerge with their performances against the Chargers.
