GLENDALE, Ariz. – Despite the Rams' 41-10 loss in Arizona, there were some fun statistical achievements that took place in the desert on Sunday. Running back Kyren Williams continued his touchdown streak, and running back Blake Corum's first NFL touch was a memorable one.
Here are five interesting stats from the Rams' Week 2 matchup against Arizona:
Demarcus Robinson's 42-yard catch had an expected completion rate of 26.9%, via NFLverse data, the third most improbable completion of the week (pre-MNF)
On second-and-nine from the Rams' 31-yard line, quarterback Matthew Stafford drifted out of the pocket, and pointed downfield. As a defender crashed in, he launched it 51 yards in the air, to wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, who leapt in front of safety Budda Baker to make the catch.
It was the sixth-most improbable completion of the season so far, and gave the Rams' offense some life early in the contest. The pass registered 42 air yards, which made it the sixth-deepest completion of the week.
Kobie Turner had the 10th-fastest sack of the week (3.3 seconds), and second-fastest for an interior lineman (pre-MNF)
In the second quarter, Turner used strong hands to squeeze through the "A" gap and flattened Kyler Murray as he attempted to step up in the pocket. It was the third-fastest among interior lineman this season and forced an Arizona punt on the next play.
It was Turner's first sack of the season and made him just the second player in franchise history to record at least 10 sacks in his first 19 games, joining Aaron Donald. Turner finished with three tackles, including the sack and a tackle for loss, along with a quarterback hit.
Corum's 41-yard kick return was the longest of Week 2 (pre-MNF)
Corum's first NFL touch was a memorable one. On the opening kickoff, Corum hit a seam down the left side and returned it 41 yards into Cardinals territory. It was the fourth-longest kick return of the season thus far. Late in the game, Corum also received his first eight NFL carries, which went for 28 yards.
Quentin Lake registered double-digit tackles for the second-straight game, despite not achieving that once in his first two seasons
The Rams' third-year captain has stepped up his on-field production. Lake registered 11 tackles against the Cardinals on Sunday, including two stops and one hustle stop, according to Next Gen Stats.
Lake's career-high in tackles prior to Week 1 was eight, which he's surpassed twice now in as many weeks manning the "star" position. He's led the team in tackles both games this season and is now tied for sixth in the NFL with 21. Along with tackles, Lake leads the team in stops with eight.
Williams joined Todd Gurley and Marshall Faulk as the only Rams players to score a rushing touchdown in five-straight games
Any achievement that puts a player in Gurley and Faulk's company is a good one. After literally flipping into the end zone on a four-yard rush, Williams is now second in franchise history in consecutive regular season games with a rushing touchdown. Falk's streak extended to six in 2001, so Williams can match that with a rushing touchdown next week against San Francisco in the Rams' home opener.
Williams has 14 rushing touchdowns in as many games since becoming the starter last season, including seven in his past five regular season games.
