The Los Angeles Rams signed veteran punter Riley Dixon to a one-year deal on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.
College: Earned three letters during his time at Syracuse and made the team as a walk-on prior to the 2011 season. Dixon earned a scholarship at the conclusion of the 2013 season. He finished third in Orange history in career punting average (42.62), fifth in career punting yards (9,291) and fifth in punts (218). Dixon set the school record with a 75-yard punt against Clemson in 2013. The honor roll scholar-athlete was a 2012 BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection, was named to the 2013 and 2014 All-ACC Academic Team along with a 2013 and 2014 ACC Honor Roll selection. He was one of the 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award, presented annually to the nation's top punter following his senior season in 2015. He earned ACSMA All-ACC First Team selection and was named to the All-ACC Second Team by the conference's head coaches. Dixon was a William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist for the most outstanding football scholar-athlete and was a Burlsworth Trophy nominee for most outstanding player that began his career as a walk-on. He ranked fourth in the ACC and sixth on the SU single-season record list in punting average (43.7). His 2,839 punting yards was the eighth- best season total in school history. He placed 43.1 percent (28) of his 65 punts inside the 20-yard line with only five touchbacks and more than 78 percent (51-65) of his punts were not returned. His junior year in 2014, his 75 punts tied for third on the SU single- season record list and his 3,182 punting yards marked the third- highest, single season total in school history.
Personal: Dixon is a former high school quarterback and didn't start playing the position until he was a junior in high school at Christian Brothers Academy in New York. He transitioned to punter and kicker and was named to the 2019 Post-Standard All-Central New York First Team. He was a third-team all-state selection and also lettered in baseball. He is the son of Tom Dixon and Kimberly Coon and has one sister. Dixon earned his undergraduate degree in accounting.
