Andy Sugarman enters his 15th season with the Rams and his fifth as the special assistant to the general manager/analyst in his 24th NFL season.
Sugarman has held various roles within the Rams organization, previously working in operations helping with team travel logistics, training camp operations, and various day-to-day club operations. He also assisted in the overall relocation operations of the club to Los Angeles, Calif.
Before transitioning to operations, Sugarman enjoyed a 16-year tenure as an NFL coach, most recently with the Rams as a quality control/offense coach. Sugarman was responsible for breaking down film of upcoming opponents, self-scouting the Rams, leading the scout team defense in practice, and assisting with the tight ends.
Prior to joining the Rams, he served as offensive assistant for the Atlanta Falcons in 2007.
From 2004-05, Sugarman coached tight ends for the Detroit Lions as a member of Steve Mariucci's staff after spending one season as offensive assistant for the team in 2003.
In 2005, Sugarman helped TE Marcus Pollard lead the Lions in receiving with 46 receptions for 516 yards and three touchdowns.
Sugarman came to Detroit in 2003 after five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He was the club's offensive quality control coach from 1998-99 and worked as an offensive assistant from 2000- 02. During his first three seasons in San Francisco, Sugarman worked with wide receivers. In his final two seasons with the team, Sugarman worked with tight ends. In addition to his coaching duties, Sugarman handled computer operations, including game plan inputs and coordinated the scout teams for special teams.
A fourth-generation University of California-Berkeley alumnus, Sugarman made his coaching debut at Cal in 1991, serving as an assistant to the offensive and special teams taffs through the 1997 season. Sugarman also worked for the team while he was a student at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, Calif.
Andy has three daughters: Lucy, Chelsea and Roxie.
