Coming off a career performance, Rams receiver Tyler Johnson might be ready to take on even more as soon as this Sunday.
Since being drafted in 2020, the 26-year-old from Minnesota has clinched an NFC Championship game, won a Super Bowl ring, caught touchdowns from Tom Brady… and been released more times than he cares to count.
An under-the-radar summer signing with the Los Angeles Rams in May of 2023, Johnson has been patiently preparing behind the scenes with wide receivers coach Eric Yarber.
"I was able to learn myself as a man, learn myself as a player," Johnson said of the three years since he fell off the Tampa Bay roster following his rookie season. "It basically was like growing pains, honestly. I figured out things I needed to work on, whether that was route running, creating separation, little, small things in my game."
Sunday night in Detroit, he broke a catch-and-run for 63-yards, his longest professional play. That earned him a postgame shoutout from teammate Cooper Kupp, who revealed that inside the Rams facility, Johnson is known as "Playmaker."
With Puka Nacua, the phenom ahead of him on the depth chart, heading for the injured reserve list, Johnson is ready to step into a larger role in his second year with the organization.
"Whenever my number is called, I'm just going to continue to do the things that I've been doing my entire life that got me here," Johnson said. "I'm just excited to contribute to this amazing team, make plays, and just have fun."
On this week's episode of Rams Revealed, Johnson takes us inside his inspiring journey from the northside of Minneapolis to the Southland and the National Football League.
He and the Rams will be in Arizona this Sunday to open NFC West competition against the Cardinals.
