Rams TE Gerald Everett – Draft Day Conference Call – April 28, 2017
(On if he's had much conversation with the Rams before the draft)
"Yes sir, they flew me out for a top-30 visit, and I had a private workout scheduled with him."
(On if he thought he would be selected early in the second round)
"I really wasn't too concerned. I know the type of caliber player I am, and I know granted, the level of competition that I had in college, coming from the Sun Belt (Conference), that I couldn't go too high in the draft, but I did think that I was worthy of top-3 rounds of the draft."
(On playing for Head Coach Sean McVay)
"I'm happy, I'm excited right now. I just can't wait to get out to Los Angeles, and help the Rams win games and do whatever is asked of me to do – whether it be special teams, or receiver, or tight end, it doesn't matter. I just want to contribute to the organization and help them win games."
(On what he thinks he brings to the Rams)
"I think I bring the complete package of a tight end. Definitely a vertical threat first, but also being a willing blocker in the run game – just being able to create that mismatch at any point of time in the game."
(On if someone convinced him to play football his senior year of high school, rather than pursuing basketball)
"No sir, I played football growing up throughout my childhood, and throughout middle school. When I got to my freshman year of high school, I decided to start playing basketball and running track, and they just all kind of all culminated to this final product that the Rams decided to draft today."
(On if he's spent any time on the West Coast)
"Yes sir, I spent some time out in San Diego. I have some friends out there that go to San Diego State (University). Rarely do I ever spend time out there. But, it looks like I'm going to be spending a lot more time now."
(On how his basketball background translates to his game on the football field)
"Just having that explosiveness – being able to high-point the football, being able to burst in and out of my routes, being able to step outside of my frame and my route running. I think that's definitely just a vital point for me as a receiving tight end and that's definitely something I'm going to bring to the Rams organization to help them win games."
(On his excitement working with QB Jared Goff)
"I met Jared on my visit. He's a great guy, I'm ecstatic. I can't wait to get out there in OTAs and get used to the rhythm and run routes with Jared and the rest of the receivers and tight ends for the Rams."
