Restricted free agent running back Malcolm Brown has signed an offer sheet with the Lions.
Because he was tendered at the original-round level and Brown entered the league as an undrafted free agent, Los Angeles has five days to either match the offer or let Brown go to Detroit. The Rams will receive no compensation from the Lions for the deal.
Brown has been the Rams' primary backup running back for the last two seasons. Originally signed as a UDFA out of Texas back in 2015, Brown has rushed for 514 yards with one touchdown in his career. He's also made 18 receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown.
Though Brown finished the year on IR after suffering a season-ending clavicle injury Week 13 in Detroit, he averaged 4.9 yards per carry in 2018.
Los Angeles currently has Todd Gurley, Justin Davis, and John Kelly under contract at the running back position. C.J. Anderson — who effectively replaced Brown on the roster late in the season — is currently an unrestricted free agent.
