WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – The Rams are still waiting for Cobie Durant (chest) to clear one last checkpoint, but head coach Sean McVay on Monday said the cornerback's availability for practice this week and Sunday's road game against the Jets (10 a.m. PT, CBS) is trending in a "positive" direction.
"He's had some good positive checkups," McVay said. "We'll wait to clear one last little hurdle, and he is trending in a direction that looks positive as it relates to his game status and ability to practice this week."
Durant missed last week's Thursday Night Football matchup with the 49ers because of a lung contusion sustained in Week 14 against the Bills. Veteran Ahkello Witherspoon started opposite Darious Williams at cornerback in Durant's absence, posting a team-high three passes defensed plus five total tackles. Witherspoon's 54 defensive snaps marked his second-highest playing time of the season, and most since a season-high 67 against the Seahawks in Week 9.
Prior to missing Week 15 due to injury, Durant had logged 40 total tackles, six passes defensed, one forced fumble and one interception while starting in each of the Rams' first 13 games.
