WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Rams head coach Sean McVay on Monday said the team has allowed cornerback Tre'Davious White and his agent to explore trades, and that they've discussed it.
White, 29, has been inactive as a healthy scratch for each of the Rams' last three games. He last played in Week 4 against the Bears, and has 12 total tackles and two passes defensed in four games played (all starts) this season.
McVay said while they'd like to be able to keep White, they also understand if he wants to seek an opportunity elsewhere to compete.
"He's been such a pro about the way he's handled obviously a not-ideal situation for him," McVay said. "If you guys saw the way he's practiced, the way that he's been a pro in every sense of the word, and approaches some things where, he hasn't been active the last three weeks. Guy wants an opportunity to be able to compete, and we love him here. We'd like to be able to keep him here, but if that is something that he and his agent want to be able to explore, we're obviously respectfully understanding of that. And so the answer is yes, we've allowed them to be able to talk to some teams to see if that's a possibility."
The 2024 NFL trade deadline is next Tuesday, November 5 at 1 p.m. pacific time. McVay said he didn't have any updates on White's situation, because he hasn't spoken to general manager Les Snead about it yet.
McVay reiterated how much of a pro White has been in handling the situation, acknowledging "it just hasn't gone the way I think any of us would've liked up to this point." McVay said White was playing a lot more snaps than the Rams expected because of all the injuries they had at cornerback. As Los Angeles got healthier at the position, it made personnel adjustments that included changes to the position's rotation, and McVay said they will continue to go with the same group that's been playing there, barring unforeseen injuries or similar circumstances.
"With respect to Tre's situation, that is something that, we'll give him an opportunity to see if there's a better situation that he deems appropriate for himself," McVay said. "But we love him here, and if he ends up staying here, I'll certainly be happy about that."
