McVay: Darious Williams has hamstring strain, won't be rushed back

LOS ANGELES – Rams head coach Sean McVay on Saturday said defensive back Darious Williams has a hamstring strain and that they will take things "a week at a time" with his return.

Williams did not participate in Saturday's practice appearing to hurt his hamstring on the last play of Thursday's training camp practice.

"When you're talking about those types of positions, it can be really tricky," McVay said after Saturday's practice. "We are definitely not going to rush him back. Here's the good thing, we're about 40-plus days out from being able to play Detroit; when he did it, it was 44 days. So a little over six weeks, and so that's a good thing, but hopefully we'll just take it a little bit at a time. I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, because you get an idea once you start to really get into some of the rehab processes, how is he feeling, you get him out on the grass being able to run, but in the meantime we will be smart with him."

McVay said the Rams signed former Lions defensive back Jerry Jacobs on Saturday because of Williams' injury and Derion Kendrick tearing his ACL in Wednesday's practice, as well as wanting to avoid adding to the workload of some of the other defensive backs on the roster.

"But it's nothing that's going to dictate any sort of change in Darious' status, other than continuing to monitor him," McVay said of Jacobs' signing. "And then I know if there's anybody that's going to attack his rehab the right way and keep his spirits up, keep his mind right and then be ready to go whenever he's feeling good, it'll be Darious Williams."
