THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – As the Rams began their preparation for joint practice with the Texans in Houston, two offensive starters returned to practice on Monday.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford (hamstring tightness) and offensive lineman Jonah Jackson (shoulder) both participated in stretching and individual drills before being withheld from team drills in Monday's practice.
Similar to last week, McVay indicated limiting the scope of Stafford's workload Monday was purely precautionary. Stafford also wore a glove on his left hand Monday because he cut his thumb, per McVay.
"My biggest thing was, wanted to be smart with him," McVay said regarding Stafford. "If there was any sort of sudden movement that set him back, just didn't think it would be worth it. He's feeling great. He was obviously very upset at me that he wasn't practicing today, which is a good thing. That's what makes him a great competitor. But I think it's also our job to make sure, looking at the timetable we have talking with (Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance) Reggie (Scott), if there was any sort of sudden movement where there was a setback, that wouldn't be worth it, and so that's why we held him."
Jackson has been week-to-week since sustaining his shoulder injury early in training camp. He will be participating individual drills all week, according to McVay.
"Jonah has been able to do good field work," McVay said. "He'll be able to take part in a lot of the walkthrough settings, and so he'll be on an individual basis this week. That'll be the plan with him, which is great."
