Rams rookie safety Kamren Kinchens earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 9, the league announced Wednesday.
He caught two fourth-quarter interceptions in the red zone against the Seahawks and returned the first one, his first career interception, 103 yards for a touchdown. That score was the longest defensive touchdown in franchise history and gave the Rams a 20-13 lead, helping them to a 26-20 overtime victory in Seattle. Kinchens finished the games with two interceptions and three solo tackles while playing 51.4% of the Rams' defensive snaps.
Kinchens traveled 128.3 yards on his pick-six, according to Next Gen Stats, which is the most distance traveled on a touchdown this season. After having a decreased role in the weeks prior, Kinchens took advantage of his opportunity against Seattle.
This is Kinchens' first career NFL weekly honor of any kind. Previously, Rams cornerback Cobie Durant also won NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 7, while outside linebacker Jared Verse won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for September.
