Jared Verse named 2024 PFWA Defensive Rookie of the Year

Jared Verse's impact was felt on the Rams defense from the moment the rookie outside linebacker stepped onto the field.

The ensuing overall body of work earned him the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA)'s 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

Verse is the second player in Rams franchise history to be selected Defensive Rookie of the Year by the PFWA, joining defensive tackle Aaron Donald in 2014.

Selected 19th overall out of Florida State in the 2024 NFL Draft, Verse led all rookies in quarterback hits (18), pressures (77) and hurries (56). He also produced the second-most tackles for loss (11) and fifth-most sacks (4.5). Verse also tied for second in hurries and ranked fourth in pressures among all defensive players in the league. From Weeks 9-17, he led all rookies in hurries (34), pressures (42), tied for second in forced fumbles (one), tied for fourth in tackles for loss (four) and tied for third in quarterback hits (six).

He finished the 2024 regular season with 4.5 sacks, 66 total tackles (11 for loss), two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two passes defensed while playing in all 17 games (16 starts).

Verse also joined defensive end Braden Fiske and Jordan Whittington (special teams) on the PFWA's 2024 All-Rookie team.
