January 2025 STM of the Month: Michael Richardson

jan25-stm-of the month-16x9[89]

Congratulations to our January Season Ticket Member of the Month, Michael Richardson! Michael has been attending Rams games with his family since he was a young child but officially became a Season Ticket Member when the team moved to SoFi Stadium in 2021. One of Michael's favorite Rams memories is watching Roman Gabriel's MVP season in 1969. To Michael, being a Rams fan is a continuation of his childhood and the love and connection he shared with his dad. Learn more about Michael below!

How long have you been a Rams STM?

1968 to 1979 (Dad bought tickets for our family of four- I grew up spending Sundays at his side, Tunnel 5, row 48, seat 1) then I bought them for him and me in their final season in So. Cal in 1994. I was elated that they were coming back home in 2016... but Dad was no longer alive. My wonderful girlfriend, now wife, stepped up as an amazing replacement. I got tickets to several games a season from 2016 through 2019 (four wonderful years back at the Coliseum), and then got season seats for us in the new stadium in 2021, so 4 years including this season.

Share your story on how you became a Rams Fan.

Dad came home ELATED that the Rams had defeated Lombardi's Packers in 1967 in the final minutes of the game. He was so proud that, while many fans left their seats, he sat and his faith in the team was rewarded! The year after the whole family were going to games together... and we NEVER left early!!

What is your favorite Rams memory?

Too many to choose from. I loved the 1969 team, Roman Gabriel's MVP season, with the 50-year NFL patches on their shoulders. 11 straight wins. But probably seeing Willie Ellison run for 247 against the Saints in 1971, breaking the single game record at the time.

What does being a Rams fan mean to you?

It's a continuation of my childhood and the love and connection with my Dad, now shared with my sweet wife now at my side where he used to be. I have a collection of game programs from all the years in the Coliseum, and many from Anaheim, plus all the programs from the return in 2016. There has only been one program the whole time they've been in SoFi- from the Super Bowl! (No I couldn't afford to come, so I bought a brand new TV for my wife and I to watch.) I wear a different jersey to each game, always coordinating the color with what they've announced they're wearing to be in total support. (Superstitious!) I do the same thing for away games!

Who is your favorite Rams player past or present? Why?

On Christmas morning, 1968, I awakened to see two Sports Illustrated posters of my favorite Rams, Deacon Jones and Roman Gabriel. I can't choose between the two. I got their books and eventually met them both in person to get the posters signed. I used Deacon's head slap when I played defensive line in Junior All-American football, and I tried to stretch out my hands to be as big as Roman's! I got a football with his autograph pre-engraved that I played with until the laces deteriorated!
