SEATTLE — It's hard to win at CenturyLink Field, but the Rams appear well on their way to defeating the Seahawks on Sunday. With a dominant first half, L.A. leads Seattle 34-0 at halftime. Here are a few notes from the
ANOTHER EARLY TAKEAWAY
The Rams' defense has been excellent forcing takeaways early on in games in 2017, and did so once again to start the game against the Seahawks.
On 3rd-and-5 from the Seattle 21, quarterback Russell Wilson completed a pass over the middle to wideout Tanner McEvoy. But as the wide receiver was attempting to get extra yards after the catch, safety Lamarcus Joyner put a solid hit on McEvoy, jarring the ball loose. Middle linebacker Alec Ogletree recovered the fumble, giving Los Angeles the ball at the home team's 40.
Kicker Greg Zuelrein hit a 36-yard field goal to capitalize on the Rams' seventh takeaway on an opponent's opening possession this season. And that field goal gave Los Angeles 107 points off takeaways in 2017.
BIG RETURN LEADS TO A TOUCHDOWN
Returner Pharoh Cooper has been outstanding returning punts since taking over the role, and got another big one on Sunday to put Los Angeles in position to score.
After the Rams' defense forced Seattle to punt from its own 10, Cooper darted down the middle of the field for a 53-yard return all the way down to inside the Seattle one-yard line. Cooper was barely short of a touchdown as he was tackled just before the football could break the plane.
There was no drama on the ultimate outcome, however, as running back Todd Gurley took a handoff into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown on the first play. With Cooper's return and the quick TD, Los Angeles' scoring drive took only three seconds.
STOP ME OF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE…
In the second quarter, a Cooper return once again set up a L.A. touchdown.
Following a Rams forced three-and-out, punter John Ryan elected to kick it deep in the middle of the field. While the punt went 54 yards, Cooper returned it 26 to set up L.A. at the home team's 36.
Quarterback Jared Goff's 15-yard pass to wideout Cooper Kupp set up the Rams at the Seahawks' one-yard line. And Gurley finished off the drive with a one-yard TD to give the visitors a 20-0 lead.
QUINN SACK/FUMBLE LEADS TO SCORE
Outside linebacker Robert Quinn came into Sunday's contest having sacked Wilson 11.0 times since 2012. He registered another midway through the second quarter, causing the quarterback to fumble in the process. Defensive lineman Morgan Fox recovered the loose ball, giving L.A. an extra possession at the Seattle 39.
A few plays later, Goff hit wide receiver Robert Woods with a two-yard touchdown to continue Los Angeles' scoring onslaught. Playing in his first game back from a shoulder injury, Woods' fifth touchdown of the season gave the Rams a 27-0 lead.
DOMINANT DEFENSIVE FIRST QUARTER
Los Angeles' defense clearly came ready to play early on.
The club allowed just two first downs and 39 total yards on 16 plays. L.A. also sacked Wilson twice in the period.
Seattle's first four drives ended: fumble, punt, punt, punt.
