Quarterback Jared Goff showcased tremendous year-to-year development under head coach Sean McVay in 2017, leading the Rams to an NFC West title. And on Friday, Goff was named Most Improved Player of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America.
Here's Goff's 2017 season by the numbers:
1rushing touchdown scored against the Cardinals in Los Angeles' 33-0 blowout win in London. The scoring play was the Cal product's longest rushing touchdown of his career (13 yards).
4touchdowns in a single game — setting a career high. Goff threw for four touchdowns twice this season, in Week 9 and Week 16.
5games with at least 300 passing yards. Goff did not have a single game with over 300 yards passing as a rookie.
7interceptions. Goff showcased his impressive accuracy this season becoming the first quarterback in franchise history to throw for at least 25 touchdowns and fewer than 10 interceptions in the same season. His 1.5
interception rate is also the No. 2 in franchise history behind quarterback Marc Bulger (1.4 in 2006).
13different receivers received targets from Goff throughout the season. The signal-caller made a point of distributing the ball to a variety of his playmakers during the year. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp's 92 targets led the team.
16touchdowns thrown on the road. Goff (16 touchdowns) passed Jim Everett (14 in 1992) for the No. 4 single-season road passing touchdown output in franchise history.
25sacks. Goff was sacked just 25 times in 15 games during the regular season — speaking to the strong protection upfront. Last year, the Cal product was sacked 26 times in seven games.
28touchdown passes mark the most by a Rams quarterback since 2001 when Kurt Warner threw for 36.
62.1completion percentage. The number represents remarkable development from Goff's rookie season, when he completed just 54.6 percent of his passes for 1,089 yards.
93.4— Goff's passer rating through three quarters in the Rams dominant win over the Seahawks in Week 15. It it is the highest quarterback rating by a Rams quarterback at CenturyLink Field of all-time.
100.5passer rating. Goff finished No. 5 in the NFL and No. 4 in franchise history with his 2017 passer rating. Kurt Warner and Trent Green are the only two players above Goff on that list.
355 yards and three touchdowns — the highest yardage total of Goff's young career came in Week 10's 33-7 win over the Texans.
3,804yards passing. Goff finished No. 10 in the league with his season total. It's also the ninth-most passing yards in a single-season in franchise history.
