INGLEWOOD, Calif. — That was the definition of a statement win. The Rams put together one of the most impressive offensive performances in the NFL this season, gathering 457 total yards in the 44-42 win over Buffalo. Los Angeles snapped the Bills' seven-game win streak in the process and proved that their offense is as good as any in this league when they execute.
L.A. had zero turnovers and didn't get sacked once while dominating the time of possession by 17 minutes exactly. After the game, quarterback Matthew Stafford and head coach Sean McVay spoke with the media about their historic offensive performance in Week 14.
Here are the top quotes and talking points from the press conferences, which can be viewed below:
"The offensive staff and then the players, I just thought they were able to establish a rhythm. When you're converting on third downs and then you can have plays that play off of plays and you're finishing drives in the red area... That was excellent, that feels like really good football." - McVay
The Rams didn't just convert on easy third downs, they converted most of them, going 11-for-15 on "the money down," as wide receiver Puka Nacua called it, after entering the game with the league's third-worst third-down conversion rate. They completely flipped the script, also scoring on five of their six red zone drives, something else they'd struggled with earlier this season.
McVay said he was "proud of our football team" for executing until the very last second (literally) when punter Ethan Evans left no time on the clock for Buffalo. He added that the offensive line was "excellent," and that showed up on the stat sheet with zero sacks and 42 rushing plays, which he said "that's why we were able to be efficient on third down."
Stafford was "in total command," McVay said, and that culminated with his check to the bubble screen for Nacua that put the game away.
"I think our guys did an amazing job up front, when you look at it, in the run game, in the pass game, did a great job of keeping me clean against a really good rush. And then we had some creases in the run game, too. So, it starts with those guys. They did a hell of a job. And when they do that, it allows us to go operate." - Stafford
Stafford said he was just "ready to go today," and it resulted in 320 passing yards and two touchdowns in a shootout win against one of the NFL's best teams. He echoed McVay by saying the offense "got into a rhythm" and just kept riding their success throughout the game.
The command that Stafford showed at the line of scrimmage with his checks and audibles "doesn't just happen on a Sunday," he said. He does a lot of preparation throughout the week to ready the offense for specific matchups, and they took advantage of the Bills' aggressive front thanks to Stafford's high-IQ quarterbacking on Sunday.
Stafford said he "loved the way (Nacua) played today," in the pass and the run game with his physicality and he "loved the way that he prepared." In the end, it took everyone on the offensive side to put up 44 points on one of the better defenses in the league.
