Notable 49ers additions

  • Signed DL Leonard Floyd to a 2-year deal in March: A name familiar to Rams fans, Floyd joined San Francisco after his 1-year deal with the Buffalo Bills expired.
  • Signed QB Joshua Dobbs to a 1-year deal in March: Dobbs was one of the top stories of the 2023 NFL season with his performance stepping in for an injured Kirk Cousins for the Vikings last year. He's in backup role again, this time behind Purdy after the departure of Sam Darnold this offseason.

Top performers in Week 2

QB Brock Purdy completed 28 of 36 pass attempts (77.8%) for 319 yards with 1 touchdown against 1 interception in the 49ers' 23-17 loss to the Vikings in Minnesota.

Filling in for an injured Christian McCaffrey for the second-consecutive week, RB Jordan Mason led San Francisco's backfield with 20 carries for 100 yards and 1 touchdown.

WR Deebo Samuel led all 49ers receivers with 8 catches for 110 yards; tight end George Kittle added 7 catches for 76 yards and 1 touchdown.

ILB Fred Warner paced San Francisco's defense with a team-high 9 total tackles, plus 1 sack and 1 interception. DE Nick Bosa added 5 total tackles and 2 sacks.

On special teams, K Jake Moody made his lone field goal attempt (31 yards) and both of his extra point attempts, while P Mitch Wishnowsky averaged 49.5 yards per punt across 2 punts.

Early storylines to watch, and what they mean for the Rams

Both teams enter this game banged up.

Samuel sustained a calf strain that will sideline him for the next two weeks. McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) was placed on Injured Reserve this past Saturday. Bosa and Kittle were both helped off the field at one point in this past Sunday's game against the Vikings.

The Rams' injury situation is well-documented.

Injuries always lead to expanded roles and opportunities for other players on the roster. Who steps up on each team in this rivalry game?

For Los Angeles, more will certainly be asked of wide receivers Demarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson, Jordan Whittington and Tutu Atwell. For San Francisco, recently-extended wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will factor more prominently with Samuel out; same for wide receiver Jauan Jennings.
