WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Rams head coach Sean McVay on Wednesday said Cooper Kupp (ankle) is "trending in the right direction" and that it remains possible the wide receiver plays on Sunday against the Raiders (1:05 p.m. PT, CBS), but they will see how Wednesday's practice goes.
McVay also said they would have a better idea of Kupp's status for Sunday after Wednesday's practice. Kupp was officially listed as a limited participant Wednesday.
McVay prior to practice said Kupp would go through individual drills but wouldn't participate in team drills in Wednesday's practice, and would also have a workout. McVay said Kupp had a "good" workout on Monday.
"He's feeling good, and the important thing is, what we've got to dictate and determine is, is he going to be ready to play like Cooper Kupp's capable of playing?" McVay said. "He's making good progress. I think we'll get a good feel. This will be the first time that you're able to do football-like movements in some of the individual settings. I'll be able to have a good update for you guys tomorrow on that."
Asked what hurdles Kupp still has to clear before he can return to game action, McVay said "some of the short-area movements, some of the things that are necessary to be able to be engaged as part of the blocking surface, or to be able to work edges on people as a receiver. I think some of it too is even just, alright, when you're connected with somebody, and it's a lean and press away, what does that really feel like? Just the overall twitch, the overall strength and power with some of the overall movements we'll ask of him."
Kupp has 18 receptions for 147 yards and 1 touchdown in two games played so far this season.
Additionally, the Rams opened the 21-day practice window for offensive lineman Joe Noteboom, giving them three weeks to determine whether to activate him off of Injured Reserve. He was officially listed as a limited participant Wednesday.
